The pending appointment of LGen Tom Lawson, a 37-year Royal Canadian Air Force veteran, as Chief of the Defence Staff, has triggered a series of other pending senior airforce-related promotions at the Department of National Defence:

• Lawson, who will be promoted to General, is being replaced as Deputy Commander of the North American Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs by MGen Alain Parent, former Commander of 1 Canadian Air Division (1CAD) in Winnipeg.

• BGen Pierre St-Amand is the new 1 CAD Commander, promoted from Deputy Commander, and he is being replaced by Acting BGen Bruce Ploughman.

• LGen André Deschamps, who is retiring as RCAF Commander, is being succeeded at National Defence Headquarters by MGen Yvan Blondin, his former Deputy Commander.

• BGen Mike Hood, who recently headed up the Combined Forces Air Component Command at Exercise Pacific Rim, is the new RCAF Deputy Commander.
