Calgary-based charter airline Enerjet has come up with a special way to spread holiday cheer. Based on its success with discounted Thanksgiving “Gobbler” flights between Calgary and Vancouver last October, Enerjet has announced it will be inviting passengers to bid on holiday flights between Calgary and Kelowna, B.C., via the airline’s eBay store.
Fares are typically high during the holiday season, but winning bidders have the chance to board a “Rudolph” charter flight at a discounted rate. They will also qualify for Enerjet’s best fare guarantee, which ensures they will never pay more than the lowest advertised price of the day.
“This adds something unique to the business of buying an airfare,” said Darcy Morgan, vice president of business development at Enerjet. “It is free of risk, full of fun, and a great deal for price-sensitive travellers.”
The airline plans to offer its Rudolph service in conjunction with necessary charter “repositioning” flights – typically empty flights with no passengers – that its three 149-seat Boeing 737-700s would be flying anyway.
Successful as the Thanksgiving Gobbler flights were, Enerjet has no intention of going up against WestJet or Air Canada in the regional market on a year-round basis.
“Our intention is to fulfill unmet needs, not to compete directly with scheduled airlines,” Morgan told Canadian Skies.
