WestJet on Sept. 5 announced August 2013 traffic results with a load factor of 87.9 per cent. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 11.5 per cent year-over-year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 12.8 per cent over the same period. The airline flew 1.8 million guests in August, a year-over-year increase of 9.1 per cent or approximately 150,000 additional guests.
“We are very pleased with the double digit year-over-year traffic growth and strong load factor achieved in August, especially considering our almost 13 per cent capacity growth,” said WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky. “My thanks go to all the WestJetters for their hard work and dedication ensuring that our guests arrived safely during our busiest month ever.”
In August, WestJet completed its fare bundle roll-out with the market launch of its Plus product. The Plus offers guests additional flexibility, comfort and convenience that include extra legroom, complimentary change and cancel options, advance boarding, priority security screening at available airports, and complimentary food and beverages. Combined with the airline’s schedule, supported by its airline partnerships, the launch of WestJet Encore, and a simple transparent rewards program, WestJet continues to increase its appeal to both business and leisure guests.
