James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk—Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced funding for an important safety improvement project at the St. Andrews Airport.
The St. Andrews Airport is receiving $203,784, through the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), for the replacement of a plow truck for the removal of snow which will help maintain the safe operation of the airfield for both passengers and employees.
“The St. Andrews Airport is an important aviation hub for local residents, businesses, trade and tourism,” said MP Bezan. “This funding will enhance the safety of all those who use this airport, especially the communities and businesses in this region.”
“St. Andrews is very appreciative of this funding from the Government of Canada which will enhance the safety and viability of our airport,” said Reeve Don Forfar. “The St. Andrews Airport contributes significantly to the economy of our municipality and to the economy of our province, and this is an excellent example of two orders of government working together for the benefit of our citizens.”
To date, through ACAP, the St. Andrews Airport has received more than $3 million for nine projects, including today’s announcement. Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $608 million for 757 projects at 174 airports. Improvements include purchasing/replacing heavy airside mobile equipment; installing wildlife fencing; and rehabilitating runway pavements, airfield lighting and electrical systems.
