Aéroport de Québec inc. (AQi) said it welcomes the agreement announced between the Canadian and U.S. governments for the construction of a U.S. preclearance center at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB), after 15 years of determined efforts.
The new facility will change the face of YQB by considerably reducing connection times to the U.S. while at the same time driving economic development in the Greater Québec City Area and the surrounding regions.
“The decision is the result of a collective effort, but more importantly, it reflects the determination of the region, its people, and its business community. Construction of the preclearance center is vital to the future and to the economic and tourism development of the region, and of all of eastern and northern Québec,” said AQi president and CEO Gaëtan Gagné.
“AQi would like to thank the government of Canada, the government of Québec, the mayor of Québec City, Régis Labeaume, and all the members of the board for their work on this matter of vital importance to Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport.
“In the weeks ahead, we’ll be stepping up talks to pave the way for the preclearance center at YQB so we can make it a real success for our region and our passengers,” concluded Gagné.
The new U.S. preclearance center at YQB will generate spinoffs in the order of $75 million per year and foster job creation in the region, while at the same time making life easier for airport passengers.
