Calgary, Alta.-based Aerotex Aircraft Interiors has increased its offerings with new metal and plastic services. The company supplies accessories and products for helicopter and fixed-wing interiors, including upholstery, aircraft covers and detailing supplies. An Approved Maintenance Organization and holder of various supplemental type certificates (STCs), Aerotex works on a number of helicopter types, including the Bell 205 series, 212 and 412. The company’s facility features a burn test chamber, floatation test chamber and pull-test machine.

One of the new services is CNC machining. Aerotex has a highly precise CNC production process capable of creating anything from single-trial products and low-volume, made-to-order parts, to very large production runs. A team of design and engineering experts assist in all stages of product development from initial concept to completion. The company has partnered with aerospace designers and engineers to introduce an array of in-flight parts that are traditionally made of metals such as aluminum. Aerotex’s metal line offerings include aircraft aluminum grades 2024, 5052 and 6061 T6, as well as rivets, hardware, fasteners, extrusions, fabrication and CNC cutting.

Plastic fabrication and forming is another new service from Aerotex. The company’s plastic specialties include Boltron and Kydex, clear plastic sheets such as acrylic (Plexiglas or Lucite), polycarbonate (Lexan), PET-G (Vivak) and flexible vinyl; color/graphics plastic sheets, Coroplast, Sintra and ABS. Aerotex provides a number of custom plastic vacuum forming services, with the ability to provide product design and manufacturing engineering assistance in conjunction with vacuum forming contract manufacturing. The company also supplies vacuum thermoformed parts used to replace fabricated sheet metal components with complex shapes that require excessive welding, grinding and finishing operations. Custom vacuum thermoformed parts compete against FRP (fiber-reinforced plastics) and RTM (resin transfer molded) parts in moderate (250-3,000) annual production volumes. A range of vacuum forming technical capabilities is available based on the equipment used, materials used, and desired product properties.

The company also has a number of tools and supplies available for upholstery, including aircraft fabric, vinyl, leather and carpet, buckles, coin dot flooring, embroidery, fasteners, foam, snaps, soundproofing insulation, Velcro and webbing (Mil-Spec).
