Embraer has made several announcements while attending the Farnborough International Airshow, which takes place from July 11 to 17.
E190-E2 prototype
Less than 45 days after its inaugural flight, the first E190-E2 prototype is at the Farnborough Airshow for its international debut.
The ferry flight from Sao Jose dos Campos to Farnborough took 12 hours and 40 minutes, with only two hours on the ground for refueling in Recife, northeast of Brazil, and then in Sal Island, in the Cape Verde archipelago, off the coast of Africa.
“The flight was very smooth and went according to plan. Crossing the Atlantic at this stage of the flight test campaign is another great demonstration of the E190-E2 maturity, and it shows we are on the right path to a very successful program,” said Luís Carlos Affonso, COO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
The first E190-E2 prototype has now racked up a total of 59 hours from the 23 flights performed since the first flight on May 23, 2016. In addition to the flight test campaign, the program has also accumulated 18,000 hours of tests on rigs and in the iron bird, as well as many hours of simulation on the virtual aircraft.
After the show, the aircraft will return to Brazil to continue the certification campaign.
Another important and recent program milestone was accomplished with the successful maiden flight of the second E190-E2 prototype which took place Friday, July 8.
The aircraft flew for two hours and 55 minutes and will now join the flight test and certification program. The E190-E2 is scheduled to enter into service during the first half of 2018.
Nordic Aviation Capital
Embraer also announced that Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) has placed a firm order for four E190 aircraft.
The four new E190s were included in Embraer’s 2016 second-quarter backlog and have an estimated value of US$199 million, based on Embraer’s list prices. These new aircraft will join the other 69 E-Jets currently managed by NAC worldwide.
Kalstar Aviation
Kalstar Aviation, an Indonesian regional operator, signed a firm order for five E190-E2s. The contract also included five purchase rights for the same model, bringing the total potential order to up to 10 aircraft.
The order has an estimated value of US$ 582 million, at current list price, if all the purchase rights are confirmed.
Arkia Israeli Airlines
With the presence of Nir Dagan, Arkia Israeli Airlines’ president and CEO, and John Slattery, president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, Embraer announced a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the airline for up to 10 E195-E2 jets, consisting of six firm orders and four purchase rights.
With purchase rights exercised, the contract has a potential value of US$ 650 million, at the current list price.
Embraer and Boeing to collaborate
Embraer and Boeing have signed a teaming agreement to jointly market and support the KC-390, a multi-mission mobility and aerial refueling aircraft.
Under the agreement the companies will together pursue new business opportunities, both for the aircraft itself and for aircraft support and sustainment. Embraer will provide the aircraft while Boeing will be responsible for in-service support.
The agreement expands an existing collaboration between the two companies; in 2012, the two companies first announced their intention to jointly market the aircraft.
