Estimated reading time 1 minute, 4 seconds.

Hatch Mott MacDonald has been awarded a contract to provide conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design and construction services for the South Airfield Runway End Safety Area (RESA) Project at the Vancouver International Airport.
HMM will design 300-meter-long RESAs for both the South Runway (08R-26L) and the Crosswind Runway (12-30). The 300-meter RESAs will guard against damage from overrunning or undershooting aircraft, accommodate Vancouver’s wet-weather conditions, and facilitate better access for emergency response vehicles.
HMM has a 20-year history with the Vancouver Airport Authority and helped develop the original RESA options for the project.
The South Airfield RESA Project is slated to begin in July, with final designs for the four main contract packages submitted in late 2014 and in September 2015.
