On 3rd June, Vision Systems North America successfully celebrated its grand opening in Florida (Melbourne), a strategic location to assist the leading aerospace companies of the business aviation industry. Among those present at the event were Florida State representatives and key industry players in the area, with Christine O’brien, procurement senior manager, HondaJet and Jay Beever, design and marketing VP, Embraer, as guest speakers.
The newly established American production unit of Vision Systems is now ready for series production for its launch customer, HondaJet. Vision Systems will produce Electronically Dimmable Windows, the Nuance solution, for the HA-420.
Based on SPD technology (Suspended Particle Device), Nuance dims instantly from clear to dark reducing light, glare and heat entering the aircraft. It can be controlled by simply pushing a button at the window or from a control panel or Personal Electronic Device such as a wireless tablet, and needs less than five seconds to reach its darkest state (light transmittance <0.4 per cent).
The Nuance solution is 30 per cent lighter than a window with motorized shade, allowing weight saving and increased fuel efficiency.
All of Vision Systems EDW solutions blocks 90 per cent of incoming heat and turns automatically to their darkest possible state when the aircraft is on the ground, maximizing heat rejection and keeping interiors cooler, for more thermal comfort and reduction of HVAC consumption costs.
They block more than 99.9 per cent of UV light which also protects the interior from fading, and there fabrication allows noise reduction to keep the cabin quieter. Furthermore, these systems have no moving parts, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
Vision Systems’ range of Electronically Dimmable Windows comprises different colors to tailor responses to the requirements of the customers, and also includes a window or partition solution for complete privacy (opaque white). Vision Systems latest innovation for EDW, Energia, a self-powered transparent photovoltaic window, reached the finals of the Crystal Cabin Award 2014 comforting Vision Systems’ continuous drive for innovation.
