IKHANA Aircraft Services congratulates Viking Air Ltd. (Viking) and ELTA Systems Ltd. (ELTA) on the delivery of the first DHC-6-400 “Guardian 400” Twin Otter maritime patrol aircraft to the Vietnam People’s Navy. “IKHANA Aircraft Services is very proud to be Viking’s systems integrator for the Vietnam Navy program,” said John Zublin, IKHANA’s president and Chief Executive Officer. “The introduction of the first maritime patrol Guardian 400 Twin Otter aircraft brings a needed capability to the region and we look forward to seeing these specialized aircraft begin regular patrol operations.”
IKHANA provided integration of the ELTA maritime patrol radar system with a “MiniPOP” electro-optical infrared system (EOIR) for Viking’s Guardian 400 program. The integrated system includes crew operating and convenience stations including lavatory and enhanced environmental control system. “Our unique and extensive experience as a Viking Factory Endorsed Service Center in conjunction with a long history of developing special missions aircraft with these types of systems minimized the overall risk to the program,” explained Zublin. “Significantly, the inclusion of our proprietary RWMI DHC-6-400RG Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) which allows an increased payload to 14,000 lbs. on wheeled landing gear and 13,600 lbs. on amphibious floats provides a huge increase in operating capability from the original 12,500 lbs. maximum operating weight.”
IKHANA developed the RWMI DHC-6-300RG/-400RG STC in 2009 to allow the DHC-6-300 and -400 Series Twin Otters to operate over the type certificated Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) of 12,500 pounds.
