The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, has announced that the Government of Canada is investing $36,173 for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system at the Fort Frances Airport.
This system will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.
Funding comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

- To date, through ACAP, the Fort Frances Airport has received over $3 million for 10 safety projects, including today’s announcement.
- Previous projects included the rehabilitation of Runway 12-30; the installation of a wildlife control fence; rehabilitation of airfield lighting; and the purchase of a snowplow truck with sand attachment and a runway sweeper.
- Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $631 million for 776 projects at 174 airports across the country.
“The safety of the travelling public is a top priority for the Government of Canada. This project will enhance safety at the Fort Frances Airport while supporting productivity and economic growth in the region,” said The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport.
“The Town of Fort Frances Municipal Airport is very honoured to be receiving funding for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system. It will enable us to generate faster and more accurate runway condition reporting during the winter months, to allow for safe arrival and departure of both med-evac and scheduled service.,” said Tom Batiuk, airport supervisor, Fort Frances Municipal Airport.
