Investment at the Northwest Regional Airport – enhancing safety in Northern British Columbia

Jeff Watson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport has announced an investment of $3,706,121 over two years for the rehabilitation of the airfield electrical system at the Northwest Regional Airport. 
This work, which includes upgrades to airfield lighting and the replacement of the field electrical centre, will provide for continued airfield visibility and safe runways and taxiways for travellers. 
Funding is provided through Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP). 
Quick Facts 
  • To date, through ACAP, the Northwest Regional Airport has received over $11.2 million in funding for 15 safety projects, including today’s announcement. 
  • Previous projects included the rehabilitation of pavement on Runway 15-33; the rehabilitation and reconfiguration of the runway apron and Taxiway A; the upgrade of the electrical distribution system; and the purchase of a self-propelled snowblower, snowplow truck, and runway sweeper. 
  • Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $621 million for 767 projects at 174 airports across the country.

“The Northwest Regional Airport is grateful of the Government of Canada’s ACAP investment in support of our airfield electrical rehabilitation project.  Our airport is an important part of the Region’s economic infrastructure and this investment will help ensure continued safe, secure and efficient airport operations,” said Ron Burnett, president, Terrace-Kitimat Airport Society.
