WestJet has launched new non-stop seasonal service between Calgary and Miami, Fla., home to the largest cruise ship port in the world. The first flight leaves Calgary International Airport at 1:30 p.m. MDT and arrives at Miami International Airport at 8:45 p.m. EDT.
“One of nine cities in Florida served by WestJet and its airline partners, Miami and beyond is now more easily accessible from Western Canada,” said Chris Avery, WestJet vice-president, network planning, alliances and corporate development. “Whether boarding a cruise ship for a vacation on the seas or soaking up Miami’s beautiful beaches or famous shopping and dining experiences, the city’s rich Spanish influence and world-class attractions make it one of the premier vacation destinations in the United States.”
“We are pleased to welcome WestJet’s newest destination in the sunshine state,” said Stephan Poirier, senior vice-president and chief commercial officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. “The new route from Calgary to Miami will not only further YYC’s connections to the southeastern United States and Caribbean, but will serve as a great link for business and leisure travellers alike.”
The launch marks the start of service four times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until Dec. 14, 2013. Effective Dec. 16, 2013, the service increases to six times weekly (Monday through Saturday).
Miami International Airport is a major hub of American Airlines, one of WestJet’s airline partners. From Miami, WestJet guests have the opportunity to connect to many different AA destinations throughout the United States, Central and South America. WestJet guests may also access Miami via American Airlines codeshare flights from Toronto and Montreal.
