Seneca College president David Agnew welcomed students, employees and guests to the official opening of the Peterborough Aviation Campus on June 3.
“These are absolutely world class facilities,” said Agnew. “I can safely say that we have found our home and we are delighted to be here.”
He noted the many people who have helped to make the new campus a reality, including the board of governors, and all the staff and faculty of the School of Aviation. He also thanked Tony Tilly, president of Fleming College, for working with Seneca and allowing students to use facilities at the nearby college.
School chair Lynne McMullen hosted the opening ceremonies, which included remarks from Daryl Bennet, mayor of Peterborough, and a plaque presentation by area MP Dean Del Mastro. To symbolically open the campus, balloons were released inside the hangar.
The new campus, created due to the pending closure of Buttonville Airport, boasts state-of-the-art learning areas for students in years two to four of the Bachelor of Aviation Technology program. It includes a main hangar for 13 aircraft, a maintenance hangar, classrooms, a student lounge and room for the program’s numerous simulators. Classes have been conducted at the campus since January.
