Porter Airlines has accepted a national philanthropist award for a member of the Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC). The award was presented by Hope Air at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Vancouver Nov. 18.

Hope Air, a national charity that arranges free flights for Canadians in financial need who must travel long distance to healthcare, presents the award to an ATAC member each year “for furthering the Hope Air vision that everyone in Canada has access to the healthcare they need despite distance or cost of travel.” www.hopeair.ca

“We’re delighted to receive this recognition from Hope Air,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. www.flyporter.com

“Porter Airlines understands the challenges residents in Northern Ontario face when they need to access certain specialized healthcare, and we feel privileged to make a significant difference in the lives of Canadians dealing with extraordinary health issues.”

In summer 2013, Hope Air launched an official partnership with Porter to fly residents of cities such as Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins to large urban areas with specialized healthcare facilities such as Toronto and Ottawa. Since the launch of the partnership, Hope Air has arranged over 650 free Porter flights.

“Porter has become an important airline partner for Hope Air in a relatively short period of time,” said Doug Keller-Hobson, executive director of Hope Air. “The corporation’s commitment to CSR is helping Hope Air provide hundreds of families with access to vital healthcare.”
