According to Statistics Canada’s annual airport ranking, Red Deer Airport (YQF) in Red Deer, Alta., was the busiest regional airport in the country last year. The airport logged a total of 49,100 aircraft movements, the most of any airport with an onsite Nav Canada Flight Service Station. Since 2010, YQF has been in the top five as measured against 51 peer airports.

Airport Authority CEO RJ Steenstra said, “We are very pleased with the result. We have a very vibrant and active airport that continues to grow and that is good news for the citizens of Central Alberta.”

Red Deer Airport is poised to continue its journey as a major transportation asset and economic generator for Central Alberta, and this result is another indication the airport is on the right path.

“Our ultimate goal is for YQF to be the aviation gateway to Central Alberta and a key part of the transportation network in and out of the area,” Steenstra added. “This airport provides essential infrastructure to support regional social and economic growth, with an impact that goes far beyond its direct operation.”
