The Government of Canada is investing $36,750 from the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system which will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.
To date through ACAP, the Kenora Airport has received more than $3.7 million in funding for eight safety projects, including this announcement. Projects included the replacement of an airfield generator and runway sweeper, the installation of wildlife fencing, and the rehabilitation of runway 07-25.
Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $609 million for 762 projects at 174 airports. Improvements included purchasing/replacing heavy airside mobile equipment; installing wildlife fencing; and rehabilitating runway pavements, airfield lighting and electrical systems.
“The Kenora Airport is a vital gateway for local residents, businesses, trade and tourism. This funding will enhance the safety of all those who use this airport, especially the communities and businesses in this region that rely on it,” said The Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State (Science and Technology, and Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario), and Member of Parliament for Kenora.
“As a small regional airport, the Kenora Airport Authority wishes to thank the Airports Capital Assistance Program and Transport Canada in supporting the financing of capital requirements such as the runway condition reporting system. This funding ensures the airport continues to meet all safety requirements,” said Don McDougald, chairman, Kenora Airport Authority.
