Estimated reading time 3 minutes, 32 seconds.

Spectral Aviation, in partnership with the Unmanned Aerial System Centre of Excellence (UAS CE) (Quebec), are very pleased to announce the implementation of an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) pilot training for all users and operators of this growing technology.
For a total of forty hours, this theoretical training is spread over five days. Based on manned aircraft pilot training criteria recognized by Transport Canada, this training will permit attendees to understand the necessary elements to safely operate UAS, such as meteorology, theory of flight, Canadian aviation regulations (CAR), instrumentation, radiotelephony procedures as well as the various existing systems on the market. Once the training is completed, attendees will be able to operate UAS with a good knowledge of the regulations of Transport Canada.
“Spectral Aviation is offering a condensed training adapted to pilots who wish to operate UAS. Due to our certification, we can provide official radio operators certificates to each attendee who will passed the exam, as well as a UAS pilot certificate,” explains the president of Spectral Aviation, Mathieu Boulianne. In regard of the theoretical aspect of the training, he adds: “We have decided to focus on the theoretical part of the training as we deeply believe that the practical side of it should be provided by the manufacturers to ensure a safe operation of the platform used. In regard to that, we are about to conclude agreements with manufacturers in order to complete the training with the practical side”. Being one of the rare Canadian companies to provide this type of training for UAS pilots, Boulianne indicates that Spectral Aviation intends to become the main UAS pilot training services provider across Canada.
Meanwhile, the director general of the UAS Centre of Excellence, Mr. Marc Moffatt, explains that the establishment of this UAS pilot training responds to a real need of the industry: “More and more people acquire UAS for recreational use or for commercial purposes, and many of these new operators have a very little knowledge about the regulations surrounding this type of systems. Incidents are reported every year in conjunction with UAS operations, which most could have been avoided if pilots had been aware of the rules related to the use of these system in the Canadian airspace.” Mr. Moffatt adds that the establishment of this training is a necessary proactive initiative in mind of the establishment of regulation that are expected within few years, and so when the training will become mandatory to operate UAS in the Canadian sky.
A first cohort in October
The first cohort will take place from Oct. 20 to Oct. 24 at the Unmanned Aerial System Centre of Excellence. The program can welcome from five to eight attendees. People interested to register must complete the registration form on Spectral Aviation website at www.spectralaviation.com/inscription or via the UAS CE website at www.cedalma.com/services/training
