On the eve of International Women’s Day, WestJet celebrated the contribution of women to the aviation industry in Canada and around the world.
This weekend marks both International Women’s Day and the launch of The Sky’s No Limit – Girls Fly Too!, the largest event for women in aviation in Canada, at the Langley Regional Airport in Langley, B.C. The interactive event features free flights for first-time female fliers, aircraft displays and the opportunity to meet pilots and learn more about aviation. “As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is unfortunate to see comments such as those written earlier this week by a guest on board one of our flights, suggesting that a woman’s place is not in the flight deck,” said Brigid Pelino, WestJet’s executive vice-president, people. “Nothing could be further from the truth. We need more women in aviation and we strongly encourage women to consider it when making their career choices.”
To illustrate the diverse range of careers available in aviation, WestJet has created a brief video featuring a cross-section of women in various roles within the industry. To view the video, please visit the WestJet YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/westjet
