“Women Fly in K-W!” event to support Women of Aviation Worldwide Week

Monday, March 3rd will mark the first day of Women of Aviation Worldwide Week (March 3rd to the 9th) and the “Women Fly in K-W!” team co-hosted by the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre and the Breslau Flyers/COPA Flight 26 will be greeting the week with a “Kick off Press Conference and Ribbon Cutting” ceremony at the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre at 2:00 p.m. Nanette Jozwiak – Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre sustaining member, Gord Millar – flight captain – Breslau Flyers/COPA Flight 26; Gert Hartman, CEO Big Brothers/Big Sisters Waterloo Region and Kelly Steiss, project director KW Princess Project will be on hand to launch Women of Aviation Worldwide Week in the Waterloo Region.
As the winner of the “Most Female-Pilot-Friendly Training Center in the World” title in 2013, the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre has joined together with the Breslau Flyers/COPA Flight 26 to continue to show the world that “Women Fly in K-W!” The weeklong events are part of the Women of Aviation Worldwide Week “Fly it Forward Challenge” (an initiative of Women of Aviation Worldwide to continue to introduce as many new women and girls to the aviation industry as possible).
For 2014, the “Women Fly in K-W!” team is hosting several events:
  • Monday, March 3rd, 2pm – Press Conference/Ribbon Cutting and First Flights for women in the Media, the KW Geek Girls and the Zonta Club of KW
  • Tuesday, March 4th, 7pm – Women in Aviation Talk Show, with special guest host, former CBC TV News Host, Jacquie Perrin and several amazing women guests from various careers in aviation, including Natalie Panek (recipient of the Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Rising Star Award and aerospace engineer with MDA Space Missions)
  • Wednesday, March 5th , 3pm – First Flights for Big Sisters/Little Sisters Waterloo Region
  • Thursday, March 6th, 3pm – First Flights for KW Princess Project
  • Saturday, March 8th, 9am to 4pm – Women Fly in K-W! Main & Aviation Expo – Volunteer pilots will be taking women and girls who have never experienced the thrill of flying in a small aircraft for a free flight in our effort to further the exposure of women and girls to the world of aviation. The Aviation Expo is open to everyone.
All the events are free, however registration is required. Registration links can be found on the YKF Fly it Forward with Flare webpage wwfc.ca/participants.html.The “Women Fly in K-W!” team would like to invite women and girls of all ages to be part of these exciting events!  Boys and men are also welcome to join us for the Women in Aviation Talk Show Tuesday evening and the Aviation Expo on Saturday, March 8th.
