Kids Shut Out of CASM

This morning, a group of daycare workers and their kids showed up at the Canadian Air & Space Museum at Downsview Park to give the kids a tour of the Museum, unaware of the Museum recent circumstances. They were shut out. The Museum wasn’t allowed to let them in according to its landlord Downsview Park, who closed the Museum doors to regular business last week. Access is now restricted to staff and Museum members only so they can pack up and vacate the premises. Once the building is clear, it will be mostly demolished and work will begin on a 4-pad hockey arena.
This picture demonstrates much of what the Museum stands for. Teaching our children about their past and how it will, and does, affect their future. This group showed up randomly, as this daycare often does with its children. In fact, the Museum hosts thousands of school children each year with scheduled tours. A visit to the Museum is on the Toronto Board of Education Grade 6 science and Grade 10 history curriculums.
History needs to be preserved and respected. Please help keep this story alive so we can reach the right people to stop the demolition of the Museum home at 65 Carl Hall Road, the original building of the de Havilland Aircraft factory and the birthplace of Canada space program. It plays a key role in Toronto and Canada rich aviation history.
For a better understanding of the circumstances, the Museum Space Curator, Rob Godwin, has put together two powerful videos:
An online petition has also recently begun:
