On October 23, 2011 the second Bombardier CL-415 Super Scooper’ (CL-215-6B11) water bomber was delivered to the Government of Manitoba. The Manitoba Conservation Department took delivery of the aircraft from the Bombardier 415 factory at North Bay Jack Garland Airport, ON (CYYB). A contract was awarded to Bombardier in February 2010 to an undisclosed customer’ (later confirmed as the Government of Manitoba) for four CL-415s, plus training and technical support, at an approximate price of $US 126 million. The four new aircraft will replace a number of Manitoba seven well-used piston-powered Canadair CL-215s (CL-215-1A10) that the province began operating in 1977. Several of these (the oldest) are reportedly for sale.

The first CL-415 for Manitoba, C-GMFY Tanker 257 (c/n 2078), was delivered in November 2010, and C-GMFW Tanker 258 (c/n 2082) in October 2011. The last two will be delivered in 2012. Final assembly of the CL-415 has taken place at the former military hangars at North Bay since 1999, after production moved there from Montreal. The CL-415 is also used by the provincial governments of Quebec, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and most recently Manitoba. All of these also formerly operated Canadair CL-215s. Foreign operators include France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Malaysia, and most recently Morocco; which has ordered four, two of which have been delivered. Since the type introduction in 1994, over 75 CL-415s are now in service worldwide, along with some 64 CL-215s.
