WestJet reached an agreement with Canadian North to provide additional flights throughout its network over the weekend, as the Calgary-based airline continues to assess its fleet.
About 10 percent of WestJet’s fleet was grounded due to hail damage in a vicious summer storm that also caused significant water damage to Calgary International Airport.
As of Friday, WestJet said its teams continued to “perform necessary repairs and inspections” on the 16 aircraft damaged in the storm on Aug. 5, 2024.
The airline released pictures showing hail damage to wing spoilers that will be repaired before the aircraft return to service.
Cancellations continued to be implemented across WestJet’s network to account for decreased capacity as of Friday.
WestJet said it expected 137 flights to be cancelled over the weekend, though that number was subject to change. In the previous five days following the storm, nearly 300 flights were cancelled.
