Air Race 1 has announced the official bidding process for venues looking to host events in 2022 as the global air racing series swings back into action.

Air Race 1, a sister competition to the pioneering new Air Race E championship, is powering back up after an extended hiatus due to COVID-19 and is offering cities around the world a chance to be part of the action.

Locations are encouraged to lodge bids to host the high-profile events, where eight aircraft race against each other at speeds of over 400kph just ten meters above the ground.

The tender process is now open for multiple Air Race 1 US Cup events and the Air Race 1 World Cup – a prestigious world championship that pits the best pilots from around the globe against each other in real wingtip-to-wingtip racing.

With over 75 years of history behind the sport, air racing offers an ideal platform to promote locations and brands while also showcasing new technologies. Traditionally, thousands of live spectators have been drawn to events while extensive media coverage and a massive television audience guarantee high-profile exposure.

Host cities benefit from myriad sponsorship and marketing opportunities as well as direct revenue through ticket sales, while the events encourage long-term investments, sustainable tourism and also champion local assets and attractions.

In addition to the USA, Air Race 1 has previously visited Spain, Tunisia, Thailand and China while a return Stateside is next on the agenda with a much-anticipated event at San Angelo, Texas, scheduled later this year (October 30-31).

Looking ahead to 2022, Air Race 1 will consider combining some events with Air Race E – a sister series using electric aircraft in an identical format – as cities welcome both current and future aviation technologies in a cost-effective demonstration of the impact air events can deliver.

Air Race 1 has a proven record at drawing in worldwide audiences thanks to TV coverage in 100 countries and a cumulative media reach of 1.34 billion people, while Air Race E is hoping to generate a similar interest through the development and showcasing of cutting-edge electric technology alongside the established series.

Air Race 1 will set the template for the development of its electric counterpart, acting as a stepping stone while the fledgling sport establishes itself at the forefront of aviation competition.

Expressions of interest to host both Air Race 1 and Air Race E events in 2022 should be directed to info@airrace1.com.

Jeff Zaltman, CEO of Air Race 1 and Air Race E, said: “We are delighted to announce the bidding process for Air Race 1 leading up to 2022, with cities around the world being offered the opportunity to be part of a series like no other.

“As well as showcasing the thrilling sport at its most competitive level, Air Race 1 venues will enjoy the benefit of global media coverage and the unparalleled marketing potential which accompanies our high-profile events – not to mention thousands of visitors.

“We view our Host Cities as our primary partners and we dedicate ourselves to delivering a memorable event with substantial economic impact and revenue-generating opportunities for the local community.”
