The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 305,807 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in January, a 62 percent decrease from January 2020. Passenger boardings were down 63.6 percent, with a total of 147,612 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 305,807, down 62 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 147,612, down 63.6 percent.
“While we’re disappointed to start the new year off with a continuation of pandemic-related declines, we are encouraged by American Airlines’ announcement of new nonstop service to New York-LaGuardia set to begin later this year,” said Pat Klein, director of aviation.
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 2.9 percent in January with a total of 16.3 million pounds handled. Year to date, 16.3 million pounds have been handled, down 2.9 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during January amounted to 16.1 million pounds, down 0.1 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is down 0.1 percent with a total of 16.1 million pounds handled. Air mail for January was down 70 percent from January 2020 with 173,177 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2020 is down 70 percent from 2020 with 173,177 pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for January 2021 was 102. Service was offered to 37 nonstop markets. There was an average of 17,408 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported six daily departures for January.
