In memory of Skies Magazine’s beloved friend and coworker, Eric Dumigan — who passed away suddenly in September 2021 — Skies is announcing that effective immediately we are opening a new category within our annual photo contest, to be called the Eric Dumigan Wings of Warbirds Award.

Eric had a reputation for being one of Canada’s best aviation photographers, and was well known for his warbird and general aviation aircraft photography. With this new photo contest category, Skies hopes that others will be inspired to send in their best warbird photos.

The Skies annual photo contest opens each year in late August, and runs through September. This year, and each year moving forward, the Eric Dumigan Wings of Warbirds Award will go to the photographer who has submitted an outstanding image of a warbird aircraft.

“Eric was known for being legendary with a camera, especially within aviation circles in Southern Ontario,” said Skies publisher, Mike Reyno. “He was the very first photographer that I reached out to as we were preparing to launch Skies 10 years ago.”

Eric’s images will continue to grace the pages of Skies for many issues to come.

In our July 2021 issue of Chasing the Shot, which spotlighted Eric’s phenomenal photography, he said: “Aviation photography is my passion, and seldom a day goes by when I’m not taking photos. I truly look at life through a camera lens.”

And that he did.

Blue skies, Eric.
