Aéro Montréal has launched the first digital ecosystem dedicated to the aerospace industry: the AeroPortal. The launch event, held at the Montréal Science Centre, enabled more than 500 young people aged 16-25 to meet with representatives of 20 companies and a dozen schools and universities and learn about future prospects in this sector.
An initiative of Aéro Montréal’s Branding and Promotion Working Group, the AeroPortal responds to an urgent need from an industry facing a major challenge: assuring succession during a time of rising retirements between now and 2023. The digital ecosystem’s goal is to provide students, young people of all ages and aerospace enthusiasts with a platform for sharing information about companies in the sector, available jobs, testimonials and news about the aerospace industry. The interactions, which will be available through social media networks, will also foster a sense of community in this field.
“The AeroPortal consists of creating, implementing and deploying a digital environment (ecosystem) that allows targeted audiences to obtain, in a user-friendly and engaging way, information they need about the aerospace industry,” says Suzanne Benoît, president of Aéro Montréal. “We are especially proud of the realization of this project which marks a major turning point in the way all young people and enthusiasts will interact with this industry in Québec. Part of our mission is to ensure that contractors have access to a quality, competent and passionate workforce. The AeroPortal meets this objective and will be a reference platform for Québec’s aerospace industry, something that has been missing until today.”
W.illi.am, an agency recognized for its expertise in digital and collaborative environments in Québec’s aerospace industry, was selected as a digital partner to develop an ecosystem that effectively address the needs of young people, one that creates a channel of communication responding to their real needs and consumption habits.
Funding received from Emploi Québec, the Montréal Metropolitan Community and the Secretariat for the metropolitan area, as well as contributions from the private sector, has enabled the AeroPortal to take flight.
The launch event, held in partnership with the Comité sectoriel de main d’oeuvre en aérospatiale du Québec (CAMAQ), also allowed student clubs from schools and universities to present live technology demonstrations.
The AeroPortal site is now online: aeroportail.ca
