Bi-national NORAD exercise wraps up

NORAD’s Exercise Vigilant Shield 15 has wrapped up.
The Canadian NORAD Region (CANR) hosted the flying portion of the exercise at 5 Wing Goose Bay, N.L., from Oct. 20 to 26, 2014.
The exercise provided Canadian and American participants with the opportunity to realistically train and practice aerospace defence missions in a simulated training environment. About 550 personnel from the Canadian Armed Forces, the United States Air Force and the United States Air National Guard took part.
Canadian assets participating in the exercise included CF-188 Hornet fighter aircraft and crews, and 8 Air Communication and Control Squadron (8 ACCS), which is a deployable air space control system based at 8 Wing Trenton, Ont.
Deployed American assets included F-15 fighters, E-3 AWACs (airborne warning and control system) aircraft and KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft.
The deploying units also included all the necessary maintenance and support personnel to allow for sustained flying operation 5 Wing.
