Canadian North named official carrier for Inuit Circumpolar Council General Assembly

Canadian North, an Inuit-owned airline, was selected by Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) and Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Canada, as the official carrier of the ICC General Assembly in Inuvik, N.W.T., July 21 to 24, 2014.
With a theme of “Ukiuqtaqtumi Hivuniptingnun – One Arctic One Future”, Inuvik will be welcoming Inuit delegates, youth, elders, cultural performers, artists and others from Chukotka (Russia), Greenland, Alaska and Canada to celebrate the unity of the Inuit and map out the future direction of the Inuit Circumpolar Council over the next four years.
“This is a great opportunity for Canadian North to support this major historic event by providing exceptional flight schedules and special pricing that easily and efficiently connects delegates and attendees to Inuvik this summer,” stated Steve Hankirk, president. “We are really looking forward to all of the celebrations.”

This is the first time since 2002 that Canada will host the quadrennial General Assembly and pan-Arctic celebration. This is the second time since 1992 that IRC will be hosting the event in Inuvik.
