Blackhawk Composites, Inc. has completed production and delivery of the 50th carbon-fiber composite cowling for Blackhawk Modifications, Inc.’s XP42A engine upgrade for Cessna Caravan and Grand Caravan aircraft.

Since 2009, Blackhawk Composites, Inc. has been employing world-class research and component development methodologies, as well as best-in-class processes and materials, to produce high-quality components from glass fiber, carbon fiber and other composite materials. In addition to the engine cowlings, it produces composite high-efficiency inlet ducts for the XP42A upgrade. The company holds ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C certifications for its manufacturing and quality management systems; these signify that Blackhawk Composites meets or exceeds world-class quality management systems.

Blackhawk Composites’ build-to-print shop builds parts from pre-impregnated (“pre-preg”) composite materials and composite tooling. It also performs assembly and painting on site and is supported by A&P mechanics on staff as well as the engineering capabilities of Blackhawk Modifications. Blackhawk Composites’ FaroArm Platinum six-axis coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with laser scanning enables it to inspect component and to perform reverse-engineering.

“Blackhawk Composites’ proven ability to engineer, manufacture and assemble composite components at economical shop rates can benefit any customer seeking a long-term solution for its composite needs,” said Bill Smrtic, the company’s manager of manufacturing and process.

Blackhawk Composites will showcase its composites capabilities Oct. 22–24, 2013 during the National Business Aviation Association’s 66th Annual Meeting and Convention (NBAA 2013). Its joint display with Blackhawk Modifications is at Booth C7032 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
