“This is a significant endorsement by WestJet of Canada’s fastest growing airport. Announcing six new or improved destinations at the same time is rare at Canadian airports and speaks volumes as to the commitment that WestJet is making to the community and region,” said Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) president and CEO Scott Clements.
“This is a milestone announcement for WestJet and YMM. Each of these destinations provides travellers with additional convenience and more options when travelling within Canada or the U.S.” said Clements.
“We are pleased to offer more service in and out of Fort McMurray than ever before,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s director, network and schedule planning. “New nonstop service to Kelowna, Vancouver and Las Vegas, as well as increased frequency to Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto, means more opportunities for residents and workers to take advantage of our low fares and remarkable guest experience. For those who travel for business, in particular, there has never been a better time to make WestJet your airline of choice.”

Fort McMurray Airport will also unveil the new branding that will be associated with the new Air Terminal Building. Named “Aurora in Flight”, the brand reflects the aurora borealis (northern lights), the gesture of a bird’s wing, the take-off of an airplane and the tail of an aircraft.
On June 9, YMM will open the doors to a new Air Terminal Building. The current terminal was built for 250,000 passengers, but in 2013, it handled almost 1.2 million. The new building is built for 1.5 million passengers, and features 15 brand name retail and food/beverage outlets, 4 passenger bridges, and all the amenities of a modern airport. The launch event this evening will be attended by special guests including Fort McMurray Mayor Melissa Blake, Mayor Walter Gray of Kelowna, and Robert Palmer, manager of public relations for WestJet.
