The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, has announced the Government of Canada is investing $318,000 for the construction of a storage building at the Baie-Comeau Airport. This new building will enhance safety by protecting the de-icing materials used on airport surfaces.
Funding comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

- To date, through ACAP, the Baie-Comeau Airport has received over $2.1 million in funding for six safety projects, including this announcement.
- Previous projects included the repair of concrete panels at ends of runways and on the apron, a major rehabilitation of the field electrical centre, the replacement of the runway sweeper and the purchase of a snowplow truck with de-icer spreader and self-propelled snowblower.
- Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $631 million for 776 projects at 174 airports across the country.

“The Regional Municipality of Manicouagan is very appreciative of the financial support announced today from the Federal Government. The Baie-Comeau Airport is not only a great municipal asset, but also a huge economic benefit for our community. Since taking ownership in 2005, our goal was to own and operate a safe and viable airport, which we do, with the assistance of ACAP,” said Claude Martel, Mayor of City of Baie-Comeau and Reeve of the Regional Municipality of Manicouagan.
