Sebastien Leduc, a Seneca College Bachelor of Aviation Technology student, is the winner of the 2014 Webster Memorial Trophy Competition, which is considered one of the country’s most prestigious events for amateur aviators.
Sebastien and eight other finalists—which also included Seneca’s Greg Yandle —were in Waterloo, Ont., last week, where they were challenged with a week-long competition involving flight tests, flying exercises, written exams and simulator exercises.
Sebastien and Greg competed regionally to each earn a spot among the nine finalists. Sebastien was named the Eastern Ontario finalist, while Greg was chosen for Central Ontario.
By claiming the top prize in the Webster Memorial Trophy Competition, Sebastien received a bronze medallion and will have his name added to the trophy, which is on permanent display at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. He will also have the opportunity to participate in a professional development day with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Aerobatic Team, and will be offered a position as a flight instructor with the Brampton Flight Centre.
Greg was recognized for scoring the highest on the Nav Canada Excellence in Pilot/Controller Communications exam.
