The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund has announced that Oregon Aero and Randy Mains have committed to providing a scholarship to a Whirly-Girl for training to become a crew resource management instructor for 2016.
Whirly-Girls is an organization of over 1,800 female helicopter pilots in 45 countries and continues to grow as women are becoming increasingly active in helicopter aviation. Oregon Aero and Randy Mains, chief crew resource management/air medical resource management (CRM/AMRM) safety instructor, have provided these valuable scholarships since July 2015.
They recognize the importance of equipping female pilots with the knowledge and tools needed to become champions of safety within their aviation organizations. The course empowers the trainee to become the trainer and embrace a beneficial and unique training culture.
Once the scholarship recipient completes the course, she will be able to share this culture of safety with her organization in a meaningful way.
Applications for the October 2016 Oregon Aero CRM/AMRM Instructor Training Scholarship are currently being accepted until June 30, 2016. The five-day, 40-hour crew resource management instructor (CRMI) course will be held at the Oregon Aero teaching facility in Scappoose, Ore., between October 3 and 7, 2016.
The CRMI course follows the recommendations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transport Canada, EU-OPS, JAR ICAO, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems and will assist the recipient in becoming a CRM Instructor within her organization.

Smith-Dufton was the proud recipient of the July 2015 CRMI Scholarship. “The training materials and message leave a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of the class participants. This is a highly interactive course.”
Since 1968, the Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund has awarded over 300 scholarships. This year at the annual Awards Banquet, the organization awarded 28 scholarships exceeding a total value of $175,000 to well-deserving applicants,
