Estimated reading time 3 minutes, 22 seconds.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum (CWHM) will be holding a Sky’s the Limit Charity Auction on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Museum in Hamilton, Ont. Monies raised will go to two deserving organizations. One of the organizations is CWHM. Founded in 1972, CWHM is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to acquire, document, preserve and maintain a complete collection of aircrafts that were flown by Canadians and the Canadian military from the beginning of the Second World War to present.

One of the prizes includes a propeller blade from the Lancaster when flown to the U.K. in 2014. Bidders can own a piece of history by taking home a retired Hamilton Standard propeller that made the journey across the Atlantic on the Museum's Lancaster VR-A. The prop is mounted and painted in the correct black body and yellow tip with a plaque stating its authenticity. Photo provided by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

The other organization is “Help A Child Smile” (HACS), an organization focused on children battling cancer, and being treated at the Children’s Hospital at Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is probably best known for its most ambitious restoration undertaking ever with a Canadian-built Avro Lancaster that it acquired in 1977, and took 11 years to fully restore the aircraft before it flew again on Sept. 24, 1988. It is one of only two iconic Lancasters in the world in flying condition.

The Museum currently houses almost 50 aircraft, an extensive aviation gift shop and exhibit gallery.

The primary goal at “Help A Child Smile”, is to provide opportunities for children and their families to smile and have fun, while they cope with numerous hospital visits, treatments, and overall sacrifices associated with it all. Now in its third decade, HACS is serving over 1,100 families whose child is being or has been treated for cancer at the Children’s Hospital at Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation.

This is a black tie/business attire event that will appeal to many people from all areas of the province and country and will be limited to 800 people, with opportunities to partake in silent, live and online auctions for those that cannot attend. Tickets are $100 per person, or a table of eight can be reserved for $750. A dinner and entertainment will be included in addition to the live auction. It all begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 7 p.m., and the auction begins at 7:45 p.m.
