Snowbirds and CF-18 Demo Team set for busy airshow season

With the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CF-18 Demonstration Team and Canadian Forces Snowbirds practicing at Canadian Forces Base Comox, B.C., we look ahead to the 2018 Canadian Air Show season.

The Snowbirds’ first Canadian appearance for 2018 will be a mid-week show at Port Hawkesbury, N.S., on May 30.

The following weekend, both teams will kick off a string of shows across Ontario and Quebec. They will be headlining at Canadian Forces Base Borden’s Canadian Armed Forces Day and Air Show June 2 to 3.

Other highlights will be the Great Lakes International Airshow in St. Thomas, Ont., from June 16 to 17, and the Heroes Festival at Wasaga Beach, Ont., from June 23 to 24.

The Snowbirds will also be holding mid-week demonstrations at Parry Sound, Ont., and Saint-Isidore, Que., in June, as well as performances in Chambly and Montreal, Que.

In July, the Snowbirds are scheduled perform over Parliament Hill on Canada Day, then move to Western Canada for a series of shows in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Highlights include an appearance at the Manitoba Airshow at Southport Airport, near Portage la Prairie, from July 7 to 8 and at Craven, Sask., from July 14 to 15.

The CF-18 Demonstration Team will join the Snowbirds in Alberta at the Cold Lake Air Show from July 21 to 22 and in Whitecourt, Alta., on July 28 to 29 for the Hometown Heroes Airshow.

The Snowbirds will also perform mid-week demonstrations at Flin Flon, Man., Camrose, Alta., and Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

August will see the two teams perform in British Columbia at the Vanderhoof International Air Show from Aug. 4 to 5, as well as the Abbotsford International Air Show from Aug. 10 to12.

Later in the month, the teams will cross the country to Prince Edward Island for Air Show Atlantic on the Aug. 25 to 26, and finish the month with a mid-week show at Brantford, Ont., at the Community Charity Airshow on Aug. 29.

September will see both teams perform at Toronto for the Canadian International Air Show from Sept. 1 to 3, and Airshow London in Ontario from Sept. 7 to 9. On Sept. 15 the two teams will fly their last Canadian air shows for 2018 at Gatineau, Que., at Aero Gatineau-Ottawa.

They will also participate in a flypast at Ottawa on Sept. 16 during a Battle of Britain commemoration.

In total, the Snowbirds will perform in 26 communities across Canada and The CF-18 Demonstration Team will perform at 16 communities across Canada, as well as two locations in England during July.

Both teams are also scheduled to make several air show appearances across the United States.

  1. What gives???? Why canèt there be a show in Comox like you had for so many years…..You go all over the country and fo B.C. you leave us next to nothing….You could at least advertise it when you are practicing for those of us who canèt afford to cross a ferry and pay for hotels to get to see you…
