Change of command at 8 Operations Support Squadron

Members of 8 Operations Support Squadron welcomed LCol Bill Snyder as their new commanding officer in a parade at 8 Wing Trenton on July 18th, while bidding a fond farewell to LCol Steve Camps.

Snyder has served at 429 Transport Squadron as well as 426 Transport Training Squadron as both navigator instructor and office commanding air mobility system support flight. He completed tours on Op Apollo, Op Athena and Op Hestia. RCAF Photo

Snyder joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1992 and graduated from University of Calgary.  He has served at 429 Transport Squadron as well as 426 Transport Training Squadron as both navigator instructor and officer commanding air mobility system support flight. He completed tours on Op Apollo, Op Athena and Op Hestia.

Promoted to Major in 2010, he was posted to 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron as squadron standards officer before being posted back to 426 Squadron, spending another year as flight commander and deputy commanding officer.  Following, he spent time at Canadian Forces Joint Operations Command, Canadian Forces College and Canadian Forces Aerospace Warfare Centre before being posted to Winnipeg as commandant Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Studies in 2017.

“I cannot express how proud and excited I am to be the new commanding officer of 8 Operations Support Squadron. I’m in awe of the incredible work that the women and men of 8 Operations Support Squadron do behind the scenes to support 8 Wing Air Mobility operations, flying squadrons, and other units. Thank you LCol Camps for your incredible leadership and dedication to this diverse and busy unit,” said Snyder.

“I want to thank everyone at 8 Operations Support Squadron for their exceptional dedication and hard work during my three years as commanding officer. This has been, without a doubt, one of the most challenging and rewarding positions I have had the privilege of holding in my career. Congratulations to LCol Snyder on your appointment. You have a great team behind you,” added Camps.
