L3Harris Technologies is extending its agreement with Airbus to provide cockpit voice and data satellite communication (SATCOM) services for the new Airbus A220 family – delivering secure, global connectivity for pilot communications.

The agreement expands the current Automated Flight Information Recording System (AFIRS) 228s offering from other Airbus aircraft families into the latest Airbus single-aisle member, the A220, increasing commonality for airlines operating the different family types. L3Harris Technologies Image

The agreement expands the current Automated Flight Information Recording System (AFIRS) 228s offering from other Airbus aircraft families into the latest Airbus single-aisle member, the A220, increasing commonality for airlines operating the different family types. The solution provides global communications between pilot and air traffic control (ATC), aeronautical operation control (AOC) and airline administrative control (AAC) using the Iridium high-fidelity satellite network known for global connectivity, including across oceans and desolate regions.

“Effective and accurate secure voice and data communications are the foundation of safe travel in commercial aviation,” said Terry Flaishans, president, L3Harris Avionics. “Providing high-quality, valueadded products to Airbus and their airline customers is an important part of keeping our skies safe.”

L3Harris is already the prime contractor selected to provide AFIRS 228S on the A320 and A330. The company continues to work with FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. to customize the solution for Airbus.

“We are very excited to expand our relationship with L3Harris Technologies,” stated Tom Schmutz, CEO, FLYHT Aerospace. “Extending our coverage to Airbus’ newest aircraft family member makes sense for both partners, providing efficiency and a high-value SATCOM solution for airlines. To date, it has enabled the shipment of over 1,500 units to Airbus.”
