Many Canadian vintage aircraft attended the 2015 Geneseo Airshow.
Geneseo is a small university town in upstate New York, located near Conesus Lake in the Finger Lakes Region. For over 30 years, the National Warplane Museum and 1941 Historical Aircraft Group have held an airshow in the valley below the town. The show got its roots when the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum would visit on their way back from a show in Oswego. Groups like the Great War Flying Museum and Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association have also been regular performers.

2015 saw many Canadian vintage aircraft attend, including a flying performance by Rick Rickards and his Stampe. Ken Stephens in his Luscombe 8A and Brian Russell in his unique DHC-1B-2 Chipmunk adorned in de Havilland demonstrator markings also attended.

Several de Havilland Moth types from Ontario and Quebec adorned the flightline. Otto Dietrich had his red and silver DH-82C Tiger Moth CF-DHA on display, along with Bob Murphy’s yellow DH-82A. Attracting some attention was CF-MAD, a DH-82A tail skid-equipped Moth. With no tail wheel, it was interesting to see the pilots maneuver the biplane around the grass field.

By far, the aircraft that attracted the most attention was DH60M Gypsy Moth CF-AAJ. The airframe had been in storage for a decade and was recently made airworthy and flown to Geneseo. Owned by Watt Martin for several decades, it has now been sold to Michael Maniatis who flew the aircraft during the airshow. Maniatis is an active member of The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and owns several de Havilland aircraft.

A number of Canadian transient aircraft also attended the event. With Customs located on the field for the weekend, Canadians could fly direct to Geneseo. The Geneseo Airshow is held on the second weekend in July.
