Bombardier Aerospace has received a conditional order for five CS100 and 10 CS300 jetliners, worth approximately $1.04 billion based on current list prices. The order is from a new customer who has chosen to remain anonymous, Bombardier said.

“Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft provide a distinct economic advantage compared to any aircraft in their class, and we are thrilled to welcome the twelfth CSeries aircraft customer to the program,” said Mike Arcamone, president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The CS100 and CS300 airliners combine unmatched field performance along with transcontinental range, creating opportunities for new business models; what’s more, they’ll be contributing to more sustainable aviation with their reduced environmental footprints.”

Designed for the 100- to 149-seat market, the CSeries aircraft family’s clean-sheet design was created to achieve greatly reduced noise and emissions, as well as superior operational flexibility, exceptional airfield performance and a range of 2,950 nm (5,463 kilometres). Powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500G engines, Bombardier said it would be up to 12,000 pounds (5,443 kilograms) lighter than other aircraft in the same seat category.

The manufacturer has booked firm orders for 138 CSeries airliners and options for a further 124, along with letters of intent for 45 aircraft and today’s conditional order. Overall, 12 customers have joined the CSeries program, including Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Republic Airways, and Korean Air. The CSeries aircraft is scheduled to enter into service in late 2013.

Bombardier released a video (below) discussing the announcement along with other news from day one of the Farnborough International Airshow.
