AMETEK Sensors & Fluid Management Systems (SFMS), a leader in sensor technology for a broad range of aircraft engine and airframe applications, has been selected by Snecma (Safran) to provide pressure sensors and transducers for the newly developed LEAP-1B aircraft engine. AMETEK will provide the oil filter differential pressure (OFDP) sensor and the oil pressure/temperature (OPT) transducer. The estimated value of the contract is expected to exceed $35 million over the life of the program.

“AMETEK is proud to be selected for this program. Snecma is a key customer with an outstanding reputation for building the highest quality aircraft engines. Our win on the LEAP-1B program is significant addition to our portfolio of aircraft engine pressure projects,” noted Andy Brandenburg, vice-president and business unit manager for AMETEK SFMS.

The LEAP-1B engine incorporates the latest aircraft engine technologies and was chosen by Boeing as the sole power plant for its 737 MAX, the latest addition to the 737 family of commercial aircraft.  The first flight of the Boeing 737 MAX is scheduled for 2016 with initial customer deliveries in late 2017.

The LEAP-1B engine is expected to provide unprecedented fuel efficiency and reliability as well as reduced noise and CO2 emissions. The LEAP-1B is one of a family of highly successful LEAP engines manufactured by CFM International, a 50/50 joint venture of Snecma and GE Aircraft Engines.  CFM International is the world’s largest supplier of jet engines for commercial aircraft.

Headquartered in Courcouronnes, France, Snecma is among the world’s leading manufacturers of aircraft and rocket engines.  It is part of Safran, a group of leading international high-technology businesses with interests in aerospace, defense and security.
