Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) will deliver the first two ship sets of its Cockpit 4000 avionics suite to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) this summer, as part of the contract awarded by KAI to supply the integrated glass cockpit for 20 turboprop trainer aircraft designated as KT-1P to the Peruvian Air Force. The Cockpit 4000 ship sets will be used in KAI’s System Integration Laboratory and for aircraft ground and flight testing.
Jean-Michel Comtois, vice-president, sales and marketing, government and public affairs, Esterline CMC Electronics, stated: “By utilizing Esterline CMC’s integrated avionics suite, the KT-1P trainer can emulate the advanced avionics found in today’s fighter aircraft. We are providing a system that employs the latest in cockpit management with the intended benefits of reducing cockpit overload and increasing mission efficiency. The final results are better trained pilots, who are trained more rapidly, at a far lower cost than for conventional training.”
The Peruvian KT-1P is based on the successful KT-1 turboprop trainer of which more than 100 aircraft have been delivered to the Republic of Korea Air Force. Its excellent handling qualities for all flight phases and superior performance, with low stall speed, spin recovery and advanced auto trim, make the KT-1 one of the best solutions for military pilot training. Early last year, Esterline CMC completed deliveries of its Cockpit 4000 avionics suite for the Turkish Air Force’s 40 aircraft KAI KT-1T trainer aircraft program.
CMC’s Cockpit 4000 avionics suite is installed on more that 250 aircraft to date, for customers in 8 countries. This modular, scalable, fully integrated glass cockpit is representative of today’s front line fighters, enabling air forces throughout the world to download their training onto less expensive Basic and Advanced trainer aircraft.
