The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) has announced that it is coordinating with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to participate in numerous workshops in 2018, as well as present at several business aviation events to educate the industry on the new Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

CORSIA is a global measure to address international aviation emissions agreed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“It is important that international business aviation operators understand this new global carbon offsetting scheme and those that are not covered by exclusions need to take steps in 2018 to begin gathering data to fuel burn from international flights,” said Kurt Edwards, director general of IBAC. “CORSIA was developed by ICAO with significant aviation industry input, and we welcome this measure as part of a larger suite of measures, including air traffic management modernization, new technologies, and sustainable alternative fuels to reduce emissions. We appreciate working with IATA to participate in several of their workshops and look forward to presenting details on CORSIA at several business aviation events this year.”

The IATA one-day CORSIA workshops are open to all operators, including business aviation operators, at no charge. There are limited places for each session, so pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by emailing corsia@iata.org.

IBAC officials will attend the following workshops:

  • Miami, Fla.-Jan. 29 to 30, 2018
  • Singapore-Feb. 8 to 9, 2018
  • Geneva, Switzerland–Feb. 28, 2018 (near capacity); and March 1, 2018 (newly added)

A full workshop schedule is available on the IBAC website.

IBAC will also provide CORSIA presentations and workshops during the following business aviation events:

  • NBAA-Regional Forum, Jan. 24, 2018 in West Palm Beach, Fla.;
  • EBACE-Workshop during annual event, May 29 to 31, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland; and
  • CBAA-Workshop during annual event, June 12 to 14, 2018 in Waterloo, Ont.

Additional presentations and workshops will be announced as they are scheduled.
