A new infrastructure program to support the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Air Force Expeditionary Capability (AFEC) program was announced in Bagotville, Que.
The AFEC program is improving the Royal Canadian Air Force’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively to assist in domestic and international operations by providing required operational and training support equipment.
Valued at approximately $126 million, this project includes the construction of a 13,000 square metre modern and green multi-purpose facility that will provide 2 Wing, located at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville, with classrooms and administrative spaces to train personnel and more effectively support Royal Canadian Air Force operations. This project will also see the development of a 23,800-m² area to be used for deployment preparation, as well as equipment storage and maintenance.
2 Wing, created in 2007, is the RCAF’s air expeditionary wing, a formation able to deploy rapidly as a self-contained unit, employing air power and providing associated support wherever needed, across Canada or around the world.
“This new space and facility will greatly improve personnel’s capacity to continue their invaluable support to our missions — both at home and abroad,” said Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan.
A request for proposals for the project’s design work should be published later this year, with a contract award anticipated by spring 2020.
