Saudi Arabian Airlines commenced its inaugural scheduled service to Canada on Oct. 28, 2013. The flight from Riyadh King Khalid International Airport to Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport and onward to Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport, operates on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A Boeing 777 carried out the first flight with scheduled departure on the reciprocal route to Jeddah. Toronto is Saudia’s third North American destination after Washington and New York. It plans to add Los Angeles in the spring of 2014. The new 10,500 km route to Toronto will improve service for Saudi students studying in Canada, and offer direct service for pilgrims during the Haaj and Umrah, amongst other target groups. The aircraft operating the Toronto flights are configured with 24 first class, 38 business class, and 170 guest class (economy) seats. With this new service, Saudia becomes the fifth Middle Eastern scheduled airline at Pearson after El Al, Emirates, Etihad, and Egyptair. Andy Cline Photo
