Air Transat has agreed to resume discussions with the union representing its flight attendants after the union voted against a tentative deal to renew their collective agreement.

The union executive previously approved the tentative deal Dec. 14, 2023, but it received an “unfavourable vote” by flight attendants, Air Transat said in a statement.

“We had reached a tentative agreement negotiated in good faith, which met the interests of both parties,” said Julie Lamontagne, chief people, sustainability and communications officer of Transat.

“We are disappointed by this outcome, as we were confident that the tentative agreement would be accepted by the majority of our flight attendants.”

Air Transat flight attendants are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and neither party has issued a strike notice or lock-out notice, the airline said.

As the parties resume negotiations, “all Air Transat flights are maintained, and the usual terms and conditions apply,” the airline said.

“We are returning to the bargaining table, and our objective remains to find common ground as soon as possible,” added Lamontagne.

  1. I definitely are on air transat employees side, they deserve what they want, however I don’t believe in the possible disruption of air flight service, hundreds of thousands of people stranded, even though air transat will honour or reimburse, for some people like myself need to be back in Canada for a special occasion on a special date, if the stewardess go on strike, then hopefully the pilots will continue to fly, to get people where they need to be. Stewardess are not really required, people can bring there own food and drink on the plane, hopefully they can come to a agreement and stop stressing people out
