As the new Liberal government evidently continues to weigh the political consequences of matching Quebec’s $1.3-billion support package for financially-embattled Bombardier, Navdeep Bains, its Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, remained noncommittal during a Nov. 18 closing speech to the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada’s 2015 Summit.
“You can count on me to play an active role on your behalf,” Bains told his Ottawa audience only 14 days after being sworn in.
Noting that Montreal is the third-largest aerospace hub in the world, part of an export-dependent industry spread across the country, he also promised that the federal government “will continue to be a strong and committed partner.”
