Transport Canada has just issued supplemental type certificate (STC) #20-34 to Airworthiness Resources Corporation of Spruce Grove, Alta., for the installation of a folding cargo door for Cessna 206 aircraft, up to and including the C206H model.
As reported by Skies in April, the kit-based solution solves a decades-old safety issue with emergency egress from the rear seats, yet it does not involve structural modifications to the aircraft.
Coast Dog Aviation of Pitt Meadows, B.C., is an Approved Maintenance Organization and the distributor and marketing company for the door kit and installation services. “We are now taking orders for the kits,” said Dale Floyd, owner and general manager.
Floyd has been directly involved with Ron Strobl, managing director of Airworthiness Resources Corporation, in the design of this potentially life-saving modification to the Cessna Stationair workhorse.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has been following the progress of this certification and an application has been filed with the FAA for approval. The price of the kit will be under US$10,000.
