The Comox Valley Airport is very appreciative of today’s announcement from the Province awarding grants from the 2023/24 BC Air Access Program (BCAAP). Notice of investments totaling 19.8 million dollars in the latest round of BCAAP projects was shared by Minister of State for Infrastructure and Transit Dan Coulter’s office, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Rob Fleming, and Heather McCarley, chair of the BC Aviation Council in support of 40 projects at 29 air facilities.

Two applications were submitted by YQQ to assist in the purchase and installation of a solar power array and electrification of ground support equipment and utility vehicles. Categorized under environmentally focused and airside operational projects, these initiatives will be awarded up to $214,550 and $160,000 respectively, in cost-shared grant funding.

“The funding will help us progress on our sustainability commitment by supporting our efforts to reduce our emissions through the use of solar power and reduction in the use of fossil fuels.” said Airport CEO, Mike Atkins. “While we have already achieved carbon neutral status, these projects will assist us in minimizing offsets and aid in the ongoing incremental steps necessary to reach our goal of net zero

emissions”.
