Investment at J. A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport

The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, has announced that the Government of Canada is investing $1,846,152 for the purchase of two aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicles and associated equipment at the J. A.  Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport.
These state-of-the-art rescue and firefighting vehicles will greatly enhance emergency response capability, ensuring continued safe airport operations for flight crews, passengers, and employees.
Funding is provided through Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

Quick Facts
  • To date, through ACAP, the J. A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport has received over $14 million in funding for 23 safety projects, including today’s announcement.
  • Previous projects included the rehabilitation of the taxiway, Runways 07-25, 01-19 and the apron; upgrading the runway approach lighting; replacement of a visual approach lighting system with a precision approach lighting system; and the purchase of three snow plow trucks.
  • Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $688 million for 828 projects at 174 airports across the country.
